John Klosterman: Anthropomorphic Daydreams

John Klosterman is a full-time instructor in drawing and foundations at the University of Alabama. He earned a BFA from the University of South Alabama (2015), and an MFA from the The University of Alabama (2019), both in printmaking. John was artist in residence at the Hope Center for Arts and Technology in Sharon, Pennsylvania, in 2020. In 2021, John was one of five artists selected for the juried exhibition, Contemporary Print: 5x5, sponsored by PrintAustin and Big Medium.

“As an artist, I use my work as a means to explore, examine, and rationalize concepts while processing information. This body of work in particular reflects on my complex relationship with nostalgia and familiar icons. My imagery is drawn from the use of anthropomorphic figure-building and associations between family members and specific animals. These associations come from a mix of personal history and traditional stories.”

The opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, 6pm to 8pm at PaperWorkers Local, 2717 Seventh Avenue South, Suite 203, Birmingham, Alabama 35233. Following the opening reception, the exhibition can be seen during our regular gallery hours on Saturdays from noon to 4pm. The show closes on February 14, 2026.
