About the Exhibition: The series Catch & Release consists of unique monoprints created using a personal visual symbol system repeated to create a generative and unlimited variety. The work is a processing and reinterpreting of experiences and observations of both the natural and emotional world. The work explores themes of memory, loss, grief, time, chance, and change

About the Artist: Stephanie Smith is an Atlanta-based artist, printmaker and educator She earned her B.F.A from the Atlanta College of Art and received a M.F.A. with Distinction from the University of Georgia. Stephanie joined the University of West Georgia Department of Art in 2005 and is a Senior Lecturer teaching Printmaking, Book Arts & Letterpress, Drawing, and Design I. In 2005 she co-founded the non-profit community arts organization, the Atlanta Printmakers and served as the inaugural President.

Stephanie has received numerous grants and awards, including multiple artist residencies at the Hambidge Center for Creative Studies in Rabun Gap, GA, a KBFUS Cultural Exchange Grant for travel to Belgium, Holland, and France. While in Belgium she was an artist in residence at the Frans Masereel Centrum where she completed several prints.  Smith curated the exhibition Departures: Out of the Frame-Off the Walls at Eyedrum Gallery for the 2017 SGCI printmaking conference and received a Decatur Seed Grant for her print-installation The Creative Act. Her work can be found in many public and private collections including DeKalb Council for the Arts, Fulton County Arts Council, Hastings College NE, Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA), Royal Museum of Fine Art, Antwerp Belgium, Spencer Museum of Art KS, the University of Dallas, and Boston Consulting Group.
