Linocut on Fabric Workshop with Brian Walker

Linocut on Fabric with Brian Walker

When: Saturday, April 11th from 10 am -4 pm

Fee: $80

In this class we'll be carving blocks and printing on shirts. You will learn how to make a composition specifically for fabric, transferring designs onto a linoleum block, and which ink to use that holds in the wash. You will carve and print your design on a shirt just for you!

Materials participants need to bring:

  • Clothes or an apron you don't mind getting messy

  • A single color design, 8x10

  • A grease marker or 8B pencil

  • Sharpies, fine and medium tip

  • A blank shirt in your size with no buttons or zippers OR blank canvas bag

About the instructor: I'm a printmaker and linocut lover who has been carving blocks since 2006.  Each piece is a scene from an epic story. With my compositions I use the language of pop culture with framing and compositions that highlight my favorite parts of a narrative - the brief glimpse of something moving in shadow, the moment where danger springs on the protagonist. The viewer will have to tell themselves how they got here, and what happens next. Whatever story they build for themselves is far more important and personal than my intention when creating the piece.

If this is your first workshop, please submit the workshop participant form.
